Hector Gutierrez is a writer and the Editor-in-Chief of Mud Magazine, a digital magazine that seeks to create spaces of self-expression for young people everywhere. He was born and raised in Veracruz, Mexico, but has lived in South Carolina, Connecticut, and now in New York. After not being able to apply to internships as an international student in college, Hector went on to create his own experience in the form of a magazine. A passionate storyteller, Hector hopes to share more stories of the people who remain on the margins by shining a light on their experiences. He currently attends The New School where he's getting his MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration on Fiction and Writing for Children and Young Adults. When not working in the magazine, Hector spends his time writing in coffee shops around the city and checking out the latest installation at the MoMa.In this episode, Hector talks about the importance of storytelling, building a diverse team and the value of an artist’s work.
