On this episode of The Insomnicat Show we chat with Lindsay Blount, a Doctoral student at William & Mary and Assistant to the Dean. She's also a military spouse, a photographer AND writing a book about identity at its roots. She's got a story to share--
Months ago (in the midst of a pandemic) she discovered she's donor conceived and has 18 siblings-- all from DNA test result on a Saturday afternoon in May. Already in the midst of a pandemic, this was heavy news. She then figured out who the Donor is and it sent her through an identity crisis spiral. Her biodad is incredibly prominent and in the public eye in his state and he wants nothing to do with her or my siblings.
Through that, she has learned that identity is not fixed, rather it’s completely a growth mindset. As she puts it, we can literally learn through our identity, even when the roots of our ancestral tree have been unearthed and we are identity-less for a bit. Listen in to her story about the beauty of freedom from crisis on the other side of all of this and she shares her story and how she's worked through this.
This will be a very inspirational and touching episode that makes us all think about identity differently.
