#SELFWORTH – are you allowing it to be defined by your circumstances? By how other people judge your performance? By other people’s reactions to your work as a pharmacist?
We are taught the knowledge needed to be the medication experts…but when it comes to interacting with the unexpected emotions that we will face in pharmacy practice, many are caught off guard.
Anger, frustration, anxiety, and feeling completely overwhelmed are some of the many emotions patients and caregivers feel when facing a new diagnosis or going through a health crisis. Unfortunately, the reality of these inner feelings can be projected toward the very person who is trying to help: the pharmacist.
We are taught how to “pharmacy”, but the most common complaint I hear from newly licensed pharmacists is this:
I was never taught HOW to be a pharmacist.
Don’t hear what I’m not saying: making our pharmacology knowledge a priority is our main role as pharmacists, but the details I’ll share in this podcast series called Unscripted are what will separate you from being viewed by your patients as “just another pharmacist” to “MY pharmacist”, which will only happen once you’ve implemented the 5 Key Facets of Pharmacy. Each episode will be dedicated to one of those keys, so let’s continue with part 2!
