Episode 98 | Elton John 'Rock Of The Westies'

Listen Later

On November 7th, 1975 Elton John started a three week run at number one on the US album chart with his tenth studio album 'Rock Of The Westies'. With 'Captain Fantastic, and the Brown Dirty Cowboy' released just five months earlier, Elton became the first artist ever to debut at number one on the Billboard album chart. Elton was back on top again in the first week of November after replacing Jefferson Starship’s 'Red Octopus' atop the chart.

In this episode we’ll get into the nine tracks that made up the original album including the song Elton thought would be a big hit but was never released as a single. We’ll also hear some of the tracks that never made the initial record but later surfaced in reissues along with a listen to some stripped down piano & vocal only versions of a few of the tracks. Those coming from a bootleg that made the rounds among fans in the years following the album’s release.
