Ruth Amos the early years

Ruth Amos invented the StairSteady in her school GCSE course at just 15 years old. So she won, amongst other awards, the prestigious ‘Young Engineer for Great Britain’ for the StairSteady. In 2013 the StairSteady was awarded ‘Best Established Product’ by the British Healthcare Trade Association.

In episode 9…Ruth Amos and StairSteady Part 1 of the Invention Stories Podcast, we introduce you to Ruth as a young girl growing up in Sheffield, England.  Growing up with the love and support of her family Ruth excelled in School.  So she expected to one day attend Cambridge University studying to become a barrister.  Ruth would deliver a Tedx talk at Cambridge University years later. StairSteady

The StairSteady is a high quality fixed handrail and a sliding supporting handle that moves freely when pushed but locks in place when weight is applied. It acts as firm support for either climbing or coming down the stairs.

The handle is sturdy and secure and lets you have both hands in front of you as you climb or descend the stairs at your own pace. So once you reach the top or bottom the handle folds neatly away letting you stay independent without having to compromise on appearance.

I have had the opportunity to interview many inventors both as a writer and podcast host.  If you were to ask me whose story would I share to my child, this would be it.  So I find her story so valuable and fascinating that we needed to share it in 3 podcast episodes.
