We venture not too far from the town of Portumna, following the winding path of the River Shannon. Arriving at Derryhiney Castle, the last tower house to be built in this way.It has weathered the years very well, and is a protected structure by the State, although there is no public access to this castle, if you ask permission from the local farmer whose land it sits on I am sure he will let you cross the demesne.
