In 1927, floggings of African Americans in Georgia were so prevalent that the Catholic church printed an op-ed plea in their newspaper, The Bulletin, in Augusta, GA, for the hooded gangs of the KKK to stop flogging & beating African-Americans in the dead of night (hear the op-ed, as printed in 1927).
