The Magdalene Asylum for Penitent Women was open in Dublin, Ireland from 1765 to 1966. During that time “fallen women’ were subjected to physical and psychological abuse. The institutions were run by the Roman Catholic Church in which women were forced to work in the laundries and were confined within the walls of the convent.
