Most recently the Clinical Director of the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service in Melbourne, Dr Mary Belfrage discusses one of the five new topics in the third edition of the National Guide, focussing on the important role of primary healthcare in the prevention and harm minimisation of child maltreatment.
With over 25 years of urban and remote Aboriginal health services experience, Dr Belfrage elaborates on two key recommendations in the Child Health chapter in the Third edition of the National Guide. These include having a culturally and trauma informed practice, and the importance of providing comprehensive primary healthcare and continuity of care.
The National Guide is one of the most widely used clinical guidelines in Australia, supporting primary healthcare providers to understand what works in preventive healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
