Recently, an incident at a restaurant in Taipei Main Station sparked controversy. A man in his nineties, unable to stand for long, placed his payment on the counter in the crowded checkout area and stepped aside. A young customer, however, mistakenly thought the elderly man was cutting in line. He proceeded to film himself berating the man and later posted the video online.
The post quickly ignited heated discussion. While some accused the elderly man of acting entitled, many more criticized the young man for publicly shaming a 90-year-old. They argued that he lacked empathy and spoke harshly to someone of advanced age.
