A white police officer was acquitted today in the killing of an unarmed Black man in April, an incident that sparked the city's worst racial unrest in three decades. The officer, Stephen Roach, had been charged with negligent homicide and obstructing official business in the death of Timothy Thomas, 19, whom he shot in a dark alley early on April 7, 2001.
Bodycam footage of Rodney Hinton Jr. being transported to prison has surfaced online, and a Black officer is now being regarded as a hero. According to some online users, they believe that a Black officer is seen protecting Rodney Hinton Jr. from being attacked by white officers in an elevator.
Two young brothers armed with a loaded gun were in a standoff with deputies. Drone footage shows a 9-year-old boy and his 7-year-old brother fighting over the loaded weapon. While this was happening, the deputies called out orders to the boys. Officers fired a non-lethal rubber bullet, which landed between the two boys. The 9-year-old then aimed at the deputies and pulled the trigger, but it malfunctioned. The deputies were able to move in and take the gun away.
