However, the reality of the file releases proved very different. What arrived were heavily redacted documents, leading to a sense of betrayal and frustration. The promised "client list" never materialized in the way many had hoped, and the Justice Department even concluded no such list existed.
This divergence from expectation led to genuine anger. Jon Stewart pointed to instances of Trump supporters booing news of the files' potential non-existence and even reports of them burning their iconic MAGA hats in protest. Even prominent conservative voices within the movement, like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie, publicly criticized the redactions and the lack of transparency, calling it "NOT MAGA" and suggesting legal violations.
