EPT 004 - Shelly Sanchez Terrell @shellterrell

Shelly Terrell  is a teacher, author, trainer & international speaker. Co-founder of the Ed-Chat movement, Shelly played a significant role in altering the course of routine teaching. She currently plays the host for American TESOL’s Free Friday Webinars and offers her daily dose of tech tips at Teacher Reboot Camp. She is the founder of the 30 goals edumovement and her new book, The 30 Goals Challenge for Teachers, comes out on November 30th.

Shelly's educational journey started in 1994 when she was a teenager working at a church that ran a charter school for San Antonio and worked with inner city kids. Her dad told her she was going to be the first one to go to college and graduate - and she did!

Shelly has trained teachers and students face to face in over 25 countries! She's lived in Greece and Germany and taken over classes in Croatia and Slovenia. It was while living in Greece that she was feeling unconnected and started to use twitter to connect with her family back in the US. It was at that time that Shelly also started the "30 Goals" project, discovered her love for blogging and social bookmarking.

"After eight months of blogging, I thought, I love this ... I am like an energizer bunny all the time."

The 30 goals community has grown quite large now and a recent goal that Shelly enjoyed doing was the "seven books that really transformed us". Among these are Edward Lorenze’s book The Chaos Theory.

"This is my first official published book."

At the time this interview was recorded, Shelly's book was not out yet, but it is now and you can get it on Amazon, among other places - Congratulations Shelly!

"I use Google Calendar, I use Google’s everything."

Shelly claims that she is horrible at being on task, but I doubt that very much, especially seeing all she does. But it is true that she gets distracted by her pug, as you can see from her numerous instagram (or should I call them pugstagram) photos!

Shelly's definition of failure:

"I don’t believe in failure."
