Some say shepherds have authority, some say shepherds have no authority

Must avoid boardroom eldership - does not match Biblical example

Polling is not leadership

Elders need to know sheep

Motives

Not to please men

Not by compulsion

Not for dishonest gain

Not to please yourself

Descriptions

Plurality idea, elders don't make decisions alone

Accidentally rules over others - strong willed

Creates veto power

De facto Pope

Not a novice

People have been around a while and earned respect

New Christians may become puffed up with authority
