ABOUT DR. LANICE AVERY
LANICE R. AVERY, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of psychology and women, gender, and sexuality studies at the University of Virginia. She earned her PhD in the joint program in psychology and women’s studies at the University of Michigan. Her research uses multiple methods to explore Black women’s inter- sectional identities, sexual socialization, and how the negotiation of hegemonic gender ideologies and racial stereotypes are associated with adverse psychological and sexual health outcomes. The primary aim of her research is to promote healthy racial, gender, and sexual development among socially marginalized and stigmatized groups.
