Equity Earned (ASRT Part 2)

Listen Later

Part 2 of the continued ASRT discussion!!

We sent an open invitation to the ASRT to hear about some of what's happening behind the scenes of the imaging profession.  We were thrilled to share the open mic with ASRT CEO, Melissa Pergola (ED.D., RT (R) (M), FASRT), and ASRT President, Brandon Smith (M.B.A., M.S.R.S, RT (R) (VI), CIIP).  Listen in and join us in a discussion on gaining perspective about the value of membership and what engaging the profession can do.  You are going to get an inside a look at some of the upcoming things happening in the Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy profession.

Timeline (Part1):

·      (00:37) Picking up where we left off!

·      (01:46) Discussion about “initial observations” and the responsibilities of a technologist to understand what’s on the images that we obtain.

·      (03:18) Championing the people and the processes while recognizing that it is not a threat to others expertise.

·      (05:28) A discussion on legislation and encroachment from other specialties while the ASRT/Technologist has never attempted to encroach on other medical professionals.

·      (12:38) Radiology is taking on social media to gain awareness and perspective of who we are as professionals and the work we do on a regular basis.

·      (14:47) Taking the time to thank those in the process while also recognizing that our roles are of value.

·      (20:39) ASRT’s PR campaign and what that is going to look like when it is released.

·      (23:16) Celebrating a profession that is over 103 yrs old and the equity that we have earned as imaging professionals.  How we can move forward to be “seen”.

·      (31:31) The juggle of working on a professional society and being a “person” and working on a board that has a goal of being more approachable to Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy professionals.

·      (36:01) Working in state societies and recognizing the boots on the ground efforts that are made.  Speaking on how those experiences can better enable you at a national level. We spend some times sharing on vacant spots or chairs that are being filled by the same person term after term.

·      (39:13) Being active in a society doesn’t always mean sitting on the board, volunteering is a great opportunity to be involved.

·      (42:26) Ways to get involved in your profession. The ASRT encourages others to reach out directly with the board to find ways to help keep the profession moving forward.

·      (44:48) As we near closing out the episode we openly discuss the work that it takes to keep societies and recognition of the profession on the forefront of the work that is being done.

·      (46:39) Closing statements.

A huge thank you for the ASRT, Melissa Pergola, and Brandon Smith for helping make this episode to happen!  We hope it was able to give listeners a front row seat to learning some of the things our national society is working towards, respecting the value we have always had, and learning how we are pushing the bar to recognition of our value.
