繁文縟節；官僚作風；拖拉費時的繁瑣手續
We must cut through the red tape. 我們必須要克服官僚文牘主義。
Because of all red tape at immigration I missed my connecting flight.
由於所有繁瑣的手續，我錯過了轉機航班。
Red tape 最早起源於英國，原來英國官方文件是用紅色布帶系成一紮一紮的。所以這個「紅色帶子」 後來就延伸為官僚作風。
在現代商務環境中，如果一個機構行動緩慢，效率低下，存在 "形式主義"和"繁文縟節"，就可以這麼說是 red tape 作風。比如：
The little money that was available was tied up in bureaucratic red tape.
可支配的那點點錢都花在官僚主義的繁文縟節上了。
The colorful term used to refer to the seemingly endless parade of paperwork that accompanies many official matters got its start back in old England. Thick legal documents were bound or tied with red cloth tape. So when someone spoke of cutting through the red tape, they meant it in a very literal sense.
