On a frosty February night in 2001 in a prosperous town in northern Italy, 16 year old Erika came screaming out of her family villa, covered in blood, terrified and running for her life.

Erika hammered on the doors of her neighbors, finally finding a safe haven as she managed between sobs to implore her rescuers to call the police.

Intruders had broken into her home, killed her mother and brother and tried to kill her as well. Now she was worried they would kill her father too who was on his way home from work.
