Thankful for the Church
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
What are you thankful for? We just had a holiday that was founded around the idea of thankfulness. But were we able to set aside some time and truly be thankful? All of us are going through different things right now. But could we all take a moment and make a list of at least a few things that we are thankful for? I could start listing things for you but what is closest to you heart? Is it people? Events? Moments? Are there specific things that come to mind? Your list could include almost anything. Your list is a result of your life experiences. Your upbringing. The choices that you have made along the way. What is on your list? We pray that this Sunday we get to share of the few of the things on our list!

Take a Stand…
Ephesians 6:10-17
This is who we are to be, this is how we stand in the Lord. This is the attitude and position that we must face the enemy with. How can we do that in this evil world? Everyone around us seems to want to fight and argue. They want to call us names and accuse us of hate and bigotry. Neither of those accusations are true. In fact, they are the exact opposite of the Gospel message that we proclaim. So we must fight back, not against the people but against the ideas and evil being promoted all around us. But we can never fight back with the same anger, rage and evil as the enemy. We instead fight back using the tools that God provides us with. Not using our own power or strength but instead using His mighty power.

Stand ready

Our faith isn’t just a defensive posture, it is not something to fall back on when times get tough. Faith prepares us for this life. Faith readies us. It keeps us alert. It creates within us a sense ofexpectancy, for both the good and bad of life.  In Ephesians 6 Paul paints a picture of a soldier standing at attention: alert, grounded, and ready to move.   This week we are going to look at what it means to stand not just in protection, but in preparation for the resistance that’s inevitably coming.

God asks His people to stand. Not on their own, or even using their own strength but in His strength and power. Simply put, we cannot make it on our own. But there is hope! Eternal hope! His strength and power are fully available to us. And it is in that strength and power that we have the ability to stand and face each day. As we stand, God gives us some vital equipment to protect us against the attacks of the evil one. This week we will focus on truth and righteousness. These are not optional accessories for the Christian life. They are the essential foundation for helping us keep it all together.

What are we to do? Stand…
November is here! The colors and the temperature have now changed. But there seems to be more change in the world today than just the seasons. Something is different. We can all feel it. We might not be able to describe exactly what it is or why, but something has definitely changed in the world. This week, we will begin talking a little about that change but more importantly, we will share what God’s Word tells us to do about it.

Don’t Stop Praying…

I had a conversation with someone the other day.  They have been dealing with the same issue for a quite a while and unless a miracle happens it is unlikely that things will change.  But, they said something that I just could not let go of.  They have been praying about this issue for a long time.  They said “maybe I should just quit praying about it”.

No, no, no, don’t ever stop praying.

How does God answer prayers?

This is such a good question.  I have heard it said that God answers prayers one of three ways.

Yes, No and not yet. 

God will always answer in His time and according to His will.  But how do we respond when God answers?  Why might it be difficult sometimes to see or hear His answer?  What do we do when God’s answer is not what we had prayed for? Please come to see what the Word of God has to say about how God answers our prayers this week. 

Why Pray?
The world tells us that prayer is useless. The Word tells us to pray without ceasing. The beliefs of the world are not new. Paul writes of them 2000 years ago in 1 Corinthians 2:14
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
Prayer is not a sign of weakness; it is our greatest source of strength. We would love for you to join us on Sunday as we continue our discussion on prayer.

The Heart of God: Damou Christian Mission
This week, we get the honor to share another installment in our Heart of God series. When we get the opportunity, we love to share with you what is happening in the lives and ministries of the missions we support. This week we will have Loubens and Jessica Eugene from Damou Christian Mission in Jacmel Haiti. Haiti has been in turmoil for the past several years. But the mission is still actively serving Jesus in the community in which they are based. We look forward to sharing with you how God is at work among the people of Haiti.

Pray: The greatest example!
Matthew 6:9-13
Today we are going to look at the greatest example of prayer in the Bible. There are many good prayers in the Bible from men and women, rich and poor, the powerful and the weak. But I believe this is the greatest example because these are instructions given to us directly from Jesus. Jesus is telling us how best to communicate with His Father and ours in Heaven.
