Court documents show that the night before Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act in response to the "Freedom Convoy" protests in Ottawa, the prime minister's national security adviser told him there was "a potential for a breakthrough." Dean French, former chief of staff to Ontario Premier Doug Ford who led the back-channel negotiations between the city and the protesters, joins Evan for an extended conversation.
