God is an infinite being. We are finite. He reveals himself to us more and more as we are ready to receive. Our knowledge of him grows over time. Our initial , incomplete knowledge grows into a fuller or more complete knowledge. John sketches out this progression in his first letter by addressing children, young men and fathers.
