Eternal Purpose in Christ | Lesson 10

Listen Later

What is God actually doing with all of history—and how does your ordinary, repetitive life fit into that eternal plan? In this message from the series “That Which May Be Known,” Pastor Josh explores Ephesians 1 to show that God’s ultimate purpose is to gather together all things in heaven and on earth in Christ. Before the foundation of the world, God purposed a divine family under the headship of His Son, and He set adoption (bringing us into His family with full rights and inheritance) and redemption (Christ’s blood purchasing us out of bondage) as the key means to that end.

Tracing this purpose from eternity past to the “dispensation of the fullness of times,” the sermon unpacks how Christ created all thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers—both heavenly and earthly—and how He will one day dispossess all that is corrupt and fill all things with Himself. Pastor Josh shows that this grand, cosmic plan presses right down into the micro level of your heart, your home, your work, and your church life. Exercising ourselves unto godliness in the “small” things is God’s present training ground for our future role in His government over heaven and earth, so that our seemingly ordinary days are actually woven into His eternal purpose in Christ.
