I'm excited to introduce this week's guest, Ethan Gallogly. I originally discovered him on PodcastGuests.com which, incidentally, is a great place to find guests for a podcast – or to pitch yourself to be featured on other shows. A few months ago, I read his fantastic novel, The Trail, which I really enjoyed. Ethan is super knowledgeable about the John Muir Trail, and it shows in both his book and his conversations about the trail. He’s hiked the trail twice, and he shares his tips in this episode. I hope you enjoy the trip!   About Ethan Gallogly Ethan Gallogly, PhD has been a leader in the Sierra Club, the Cal Hiking and Outdoors Society (CHAOS) at UC Berkeley, and the Outdoors Club of Southern California. His boots have covered countless miles, including the John Muir Trail, the High Sierra Trail, the Oregon Section of the Pacific Crest Trail, the Tahoe-Yosemite Trail, and the Theodore Solomons Trail. He was a reviewer for Sierra North, Sierra South, and Yosemite National Park and has read nearly every book on the history of the Sierra Nevada.   Ethan’s Links Website Get The Trail for free on Kindle Unlimited   Listen To This Episode        What You'll Learn What it’s like to hike the John Muir Trail The California trail Ethan recommends for beginners What Ethan has learned from his backpacking adventures Why Ethan wrote a novel about the trail, rather than a memoir What you need to know to hike the JMT   Things We Discussed PodcastGuests.com  Tom Harrison’s map pack for the John Muir Trail  John Muir Trail Topographic Map Guide  John Muir Trail: The Essential Guide to Hiking America's Most Famous Trail, by Elizabeth Wenk  Jeremy Ashcroft maps  French Pyrenees GR10 trail    Related Episodes 407 Keith Foskett ~ Through Hiking Long-Distance Trails in the USA and Spain (now with downloadable transcript!) 376 Holly Worton ~ Long Distance Walks: Time and Space to Think and Reflect (now with downloadable transcript!) 368 Yvette Webster ~ How to Take Your Hiking to the Next Level (now with downloadable transcript!) 359 Adam Wells ~ How To Prepare For Your First Long Distance Trail (now with downloadable transcript!) 354 Stephen Marriott ~ The Life-changing Magic of Walking a Long-Distance Trail (now with downloadable transcript!)   Connect With Holly Website Facebook Instagram Twitter Pinterest Google+ LinkedIn   How to Subscribe Click here to subscribe via iTunes Click here to subscribe via RSS Click here to subscribe via Stitcher   Help Spread the Word If you enjoyed this episode, please head on over to iTunes and kindly leave us a rating and a review!
