Tobby Yu-Yung Yen was born in China in February 1945, and he moved with both his parents to live in Taiwan when he was 2 years old. He was brought up in an old town in the southern region called Tainan.
After two years in the Air Force training to become a pilot, Yen moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1969 looking for work. It was here in the States that he got into the restaurant business. In the following years, he opened restaurants in places like Washington D.C., New Orleans, and several right here in the Ozarks.
After marrying his wife Lily, the couple had four children, John, Paul, Michael and Betty. In raising his children, Yen said he wanted them to learn from experience and making their own decisions.
