Vader’s studies under the Emperor had proved gruelling and violent.

Mission after mission, planet after planet, death after death…. Palpatine instructed his apprentice to carry out tasks and assassinations that further destabilised what was left of any non-Imperial systems.

It resulted in the murder of hundreds of beings.

Did this huge loss of life from Vader’s missions have any effect on Palpatine?  Did he regret making his apprentice carry out these atrocities?
