Now since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil, and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. — Hebrews 2:14,15

Christ took on flesh and blood so that through death he could destroy the devil and free those held in lifelong slavery by the fear of death. Paul mocks death itself: "O death, where is your victory?". Though outwardly we waste away, we're being renewed day by day, and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Death no longer has the final word.
