Christian Prayer:
Evening Prayer for Wednesday before Epiphany
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
O Christ, Redeemer of us all,
The Father's Splendor, Light from Light,
O Source of all salvation true,
This is the great day of the year
The earth, the sky, the very sea,
And we who now have been redeemed
All glory Jesus, be to you
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 The Lord is my light and my help; whom shall I fear?
Psalm 27
I
The Lord is my light and my help;
When evil-doers draw near
Though an army encamp against me
There is one thing I ask of the Lord,
For there he keeps me safe in his tent
And now my head shall be raised
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. The Lord is my light and my help; whom shall I fear?
Ant. 2 I long to look on you, O Lord; do not turn your face from me.
II
Some rose to present lies and false evidence against Jesus (Mark 14:57).
O Lord, hear my voice when I call;
It is your face, O Lord, that I seek;
Do not abandon or forsake me,
Instruct me, Lord, in your way;
I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Father, you protect and strengthen those who hope in you; you heard the cry of your Son and kept him safe in your tent in the day of evil. Grant that your servants who seek your face in time of trouble may see your goodness in the land of the living.
Ant. I long to look on you, O Lord; do not turn your face from me.
Ant. 3 He is the first-born of all creation; in every way the primacy is his.
Canticle — Colossians 1:12-20
Let us give thanks to the Father
He rescued us
He is the image of the invisible God,
All were created through him;
It is he who is head of the body, the church!
It pleased God to make absolute fullness reside in him
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. He is the first-born of all creation; in every way the primacy is his.
READING Romans 8:3-4
God sent his Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin-offering, thereby condemning sin in the flesh, so that the just demands of the law might be fulfilled in us who live, not according to the flesh, but according to the spirit.
Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell)
RESPONSORY
The Word was made man, alleluia, alleluia.
He lived among us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
CANTICLE OF MARY
Ant. I have come forth from God into the world; I have not come of myself, but the Father sent me.
Luke 1:46-55
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
He has mercy on those who fear him
He has shown the strength of his arm,
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
He has filled the hungry with good things,
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
Ant. I have come forth from God into the world; I have not come of myself, but the Father sent me.
INTERCESSIONS
Christ came and gave himself up to purify his people, to make of them an acceptable offering, a band of disciples to continue his good work. With fervent devotion, let us call upon him:
For your holy Church,
For the poor, for prisoners and for refugees,
That our joy may be full,
That your servants who have died with the knowledge of your birth may see your face,
Our Father who art in heaven,
Concluding Prayer
Grant us, almighty God,
DISMISSAL
May the Lord bless us,
