Ever Wonder Why? 3: a Faith that Preserves

Listen Later

This third part explores the question of why God sometimes doesn't answer prayers. The focus of today's message is on discovering how to know if God is with us, especially during challenging and messy times. The presence of God brings not only comfort but also hope, which is an eager expectation of rescue.

The context for this discussion is the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who were brought into Nebuchadnezzar's court in Babylon during the first exile and trained to be advisers. Nebuchadnezzar built a statue and commanded everyone to worship it, but Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused. As a result, they were brought before the king and threatened with being thrown into a blazing furnace if they did not comply. However, they declared their faith in God and expressed their willingness to face the consequences, even if God did not rescue them.

The message emphasizes that we all face challenging and evil times, causing us to wonder if God is with us. It highlights the importance of knowing that God is with us even in the furnace moments of life. The speaker shares personal experiences and references Bible verses to reinforce this message. Doubt is addressed as a struggle that can hinder faith, but it is also distinguished from doubting God. The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is used to illustrate how their faith persevered even when they were unsure of the outcome.

The message concludes by discussing ways to know that God is near, such as through His Word, the testimony of others, and an internal hunger for Him. It emphasizes that we are created with a need for something greater than ourselves and that Jesus desires believers with a hunger for God. Developing faith is highlighted as a process that involves receiving Jesus, making the Word of God the final authority, meditating on the Word, acting on it, and giving God praise. The message reassures listeners that God is close to the brokenhearted, lonely, and hurting, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. Overall, the message encourages listeners to trust in God's presence and faithfulness, even when facing challenges and uncertainties.

In this message we are going to explore what the Bible teaches about those moments when it seems God doesn’t answer our prayers.
