Sermon Notes—"Everlasting Love"
Scripture: Jeremiah 31:1-26
"We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ."
Colossians 1:28 (NIV84)

Lesson Text

1 "At that time, declares the Lord, I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they shall be my people." 2Thus says the Lord: "The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, 3the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. 4Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with tambourines and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers. 5Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant and shall enjoy the fruit.
Jeremiah 31:1–5 (ESV)
18I have heard Ephraim grieving, 'You have disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like an untrained calf; bring me back that I may be restored, for you are the Lord my God. 19For after I had turned away, I relented, and after I was instructed, I struck my thigh; I was ashamed, and I was confounded, because I bore the disgrace of my youth.' 20Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 31:18–20 (ESV)

Notes:

1. You are not irrelevant, insignificant or unimportant. God has always been FOND of you!

16You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. 17How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

Psalm 139:16–18 (NLT)

30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

Matthew 10:30 (ESV)

2. God's love is CONSISTENT and RELIABLE even when you're not. That's how highly He values you!

19God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
Numbers 23:19 (ESV)

3. God's love for you is UNCONDITIONAL, but you have to receive it.

22But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to celebrate.

Luke 15:22–24 (ESV)
