Crutch (unstable security): that which is relied on in a way it wasn’t intended

5 Crutches David Had to Lose

-Security of Position (19:9)

-His own wife (19:17)

-A significant mentor (20:1)

-A best friend (20:42)

-His own dignity (21:12-15)

Three Reasons to Lose the Crutches

1: Crutches can’t fill our need for God

So do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you;

I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

2: Crutches cause us to get stuck in the horizontal

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
