Job dissatisfaction and resignations are on the rise at an alarming rate in America. Over 3.6 million Americans quit their jobs in May 2021, which was a 63% increase over the same month in the previous year. And that shouldn’t be surprising considering approximately 70% of Americans are not engaged in their jobs. What does it really mean to be blessed? We’ve all had the conversations where someone describes something good that’s happened to them and then says, “We’re blessed.” The implication is because something good has happened, that must mean that God has given his blessing. But what about when something bad happens? Are we still blessed? When someone says, “I lost my job today...”, is it appropriate to follow that with, “...guess you’re not blessed”? We live in an age of almost infinite information. Because of that, we live in a society full of experts, and we’re constantly surrounded by opinions. But should you voice your opinions? People usually try their best to look sturdy and pretend as if we could lean all our weight on them, only to find out that, like the rest of the world, they’re broken. So when we go to put our weight on them, they inevitably give under the weight and we fall through to the hard ground. Just like with a broken chair, it’s both painful and humiliating. In the 1990s and early 2000s, a popular trend emerged within Christian culture. It was the “WWJD“ trend - which stood for “what would Jesus do?” Teenagers wore bracelets with the letters WWJD sewn in them to signify that the person wearing the bracelet was to be reminded to act in a way that Jesus acted. While the WWJD movement probably had its roots in pure motives, it’s come to embody the most prevalent issue dragging down the Christian church in western culture today. Should we judge people? More specifically, should Christians judge people? There’s an awful lot of judgment coming from Christians right now, but is that a bad thing? Jesus said judge not lest you be judged, but He also said that Christians are supposed to judge with right judgment. How are Christians supposed to judge with right judgement if they’re never supposed to judge people?

Is procrastination a bad thing? We all put off important tasks from time to time, but research has found that around 1 in 5 Americans are what can be called “chronic” procrastinators - which is anyone who continually puts off doing something until later (source). I don’t have to tell you this, but we live in a society that loves to argue. And regardless of what the world may tell us, that isn’t always a bad thing. An argument, by definition, is simply a statement or set of statements that determine the value of something. It’s an exchange of clearly defined viewpoints in order to find the truth - which is usually determined by the combining of multiple viewpoints. So arguments in and of themselves are not all bad. Is it possible to have peace in the middle of conflict? Lord knows we have plenty of conflict, but is peace waiting just outside of our reach on the other side of conflict, or is it possible to have it regardless of what’s going on in our lives?
