Every Time You Resist Temptation, a Demon Gets Punished! (Understanding Serpents, Part 8)

Did you know demons get disciplined when they fail to tempt you? That’s why they attack harder—because every time you resist, you put a devil in trouble.

In this message (Part 8 of Understanding Serpents), we go deep into Ephesians 6:12, exploring how:

-Demons operate as rulers of darkness with assigned territories

-Sin is not just weakness—it’s submitting to a ruler’s government

-Jesus came with purpose: to destroy the works of the devil

-Why precision in the Spirit makes demons fear YOU

This isn’t about religion—it’s about authority. You’ve been given divine power to strike with accuracy, just like a serpent, and to walk in total victory over every demonic ruler trying to control your territory.

Stay until the end as we pray for freedom, restoration, and fresh fire.

What’s the ONE temptation you’ve been striking down this week? Drop it below 👇 so we can pray in agreement.

Here are the author's notes from this week's message:

Understanding Serpents Pt. 8

*- Just before Jesus sent His disciples out to minister, He gave them specific instructions:

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Matthew 10:16 (KJV)

*- Serpents have extremely poor eyesight and cannot hear airborne sounds, so they can’t rely on those senses for awareness. Yet, they rarely miss what they’re meant to hit.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

[But] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done].

1 John 3:8 AMPC

*- rulers of the darkness of this world: lord of the world, prince of this age (the devil and demons are called in the plural, rulers). The devil and these demons hold dominions (territories) entrusted to them in the order of things in the realms of darkness. So, not only do demons love darkness, they lord over it relationally. Therefore, if we operate in relation to darkness (simple or extended disobedience to God, sin), demons lord over us because rulers have governmental power over those who operate under their rule.

*- Lord (in reference to God): Whenever He speaks or acts to preserve, judge, or bless His people, biblical text often uses this personal name rather than a generic title “God,” stressing His intimate relationship with His covenant community.

*- Let’s discover the first chronological instance in the Bible when God was called Lord, but first...

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 KJV

*- Here, “God” is Elohim, emphasizing God’s supreme creative power and authority — foundational before facing any enemy.

These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens.

Genesis 2:4 KJV

*- The first mention of LORD God—shifting from Creator to Covenant-Keeper. This is crucial because the enemy often tries to strip away the “LORD” aspect to make God seem distant and impersonal. “Lord” is personal and relational—binding Himself to His creation through promise and care.

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Genesis 3:1, 4, 5 KJV

*- The serpent drops LORD and only says “God”—intentionally removing the covenant, personal relationship aspect to frame God as a distant authority rather than our faithful Father.

*- Moses, the author of Genesis, returns to the personal relationship reference.

8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

Genesis 3:8-9 KJV

*- Jesus is Lord of His church, those who obey Him, and we know the world opposes (is opposite of) His church. And, just as Jesus is Lord of His church, the world also has lords whom they obey.

*- We strike back and destroy the works of the rulers of the darkness of this world by obeying God only—strictly keeping all forms of the dark world out of our lives.

Lifework Assignment: Ask the Holy Spirit to alert you the moment you’re knowingly or unknowingly about to step into darkness and be lorded over by the demon assigned to that area of evil.

Expected Behavior:

Do not turn to idols and things of nought or make for yourselves molten gods. I the Lord am your God.

Leviticus 19:4 AMPC
