Publisher's Summary:
"A collection that's spirited and endearing...which she tells with winning self-deprecation and a level of detail that conjures the dusty, sunny fragrance of her travels. Sexton punctuates the pieces in an all-caps-studded brand of wacky humor, mostly in the form of wry one-liners." - Kirkus Reviews
"Sexton is a truly original voice; almost everything she thinks and does in this superb collection is unexpected - from grilling a man who tells her she is 'Hot' for more information, to calling a Suicide Hotline only to end up reassuring the inept operator that he is good at his job. EVERYBODY BUT YOU is an entertaining insight into the large talent of an atypical mind any [listener] would be privileged to have." - Maggie Rowe, producer, Comedy Central Stage, Sit 'n Spin

A Kindred Spirit!
I was lucky to get an advanced copy of this book. Now, I am excited for it to be available so I can send copies as gifts to my book group friends.
Thia Sexton has such a way of telling stories that makes you feel as if you are there and experiencing it for yourself. Whether she is traveling with her mom, or in college with her roommates, we are all re-living her awkward adventures together. I feel so much like she is included in my family of "besties."
The stories were delightfully entertaining. I didn't want them to end. I don't usually re-read books that I have already read, but this time I am interested in hearing them read again â in her own voice, via the audiobook. I imagine the story about making orgasm sounds for an "erotic thriller" to be quite the brow raiser!
I haven't yet purchased the accompanying cd of original music, but after viewing the whimsically animated video for "Awoken" on YouTube, it is definitely on my wish list!
Again, I am excited about getting the cd, eagerly awaiting the audible, and am living in anticipation for more stories from Thia Sexton.
So funny...
I love this book. The writing is smart and self-depricating and witty, but it's her ever-hopeful naivete that moves the plots of the stories and puts her in the middle of all these colorful worlds and serious "misadventures". Clumsily dealing with men, family, roommates, being a newbie in New York, Hollywood, Marrakesh -- hitch-hiking! She's so willing and trying so hard, I was simultaneously laughing, praying for her safety and cheering her on.
original
Entertaining and original...one I will not soon forget, as the voice that Sexton is like nothing I have read before. These stories have depth, a fresh voice and are oh so fun to read. I love short stories books because you can toss it in your purse and read whenever you have a free moment. You will not regret reading this book and you will end of thanking me for recommending it!
Funny, fun, and relatable!
Loved being taken along for the ride on Sexton's "mostly true" travels, adventures, and misadventures. A laugh out loud read with insightful self discovery along the way.
Thia's wonderfully oddball voice shines throughout the book
Bawdy comedy combines with innocent charm in this "mostly true" romp of short stories. Fizzing with nimble witâat times breezily adrift but always returning to harbor, Thia's wonderfully oddball voice shines throughout the book: cheeky, warm, brainy, silly yet always penetratingly truthful.
