We’re thrilled to share Episode 2 of Everyday Longevity, a series within A Parliament of Owls! At 76 and 78, Janice and I are on a mission to help you die young at an old age—full of vitality, not decline.

In this episode, “From Cravings to Control: Our Surprisingly Easy Shift to Real Food,” we dive into our journey:

The Low-Fat Lie: We grew up avoiding fats—fat-free yogurt, non-fat everything—thanks to Ancel Keys’ flawed research in the 1950s that demonized fat. Government guidelines pushed grains, leaving us hungry and craving more.

* The Aha Moment: Watching Fat Fiction ( click to watch movie) flipped everything. We learned sugar and grains were the real culprits, and that our brains could use ketones from fat for energy, better for clarity and health.

* Embracing Real Food: We brought back full-fat foods—butter, avocado, cheese, olive oil—and our cravings disappeared. Janice lost 20 pounds, and we both felt more energy, playing pickleball for 90 minutes at our age!

We also share how this naturally led to a 16:8 fasting window, why sugar—not fat—drives chronic diseases like diabetes and Alzheimer’s, and simple tips to start: swap grains for healthy fats and see how you feel.
