Above and beyond anything else, there is a single need for all of humanity: Jesus.

Why Jesus?

  • His Knowledge
    • John 18:4
      • God is omniscient (all knowing)
      • John 4 – The Woman at the Well
        • Jesus knows like no one else knows.
          • His Power
            • John 18:6
              • God is Omnipotent (all powerful)
              • With a phrase he laid a small army on the ground.
              • Exodus 3:14 “I AM”
              • Matthew 8:27 – calming the sea
                • thaumazō (Greek: θαυμάζω)  – to wonder, wonder at, marvel
                  • His Compassion
                    • John 18:8
                      • Compassion for his friends… and his enemies.
                      • splagchnizomai (Greek: σπλαγχνίζομαι): to be moved even to ones bowels; hence to be moved with or to have compassion (for bowels were thought tone the seat of love and pity).
                      • Matthew 9:36
                        • Distressed and dejected
                        • skyllō (Greek: σκύλλω) – to rend, mangle; to vex, trouble, annoy; to give one’s self trouble, trouble one’s self
                          • His Resolve
                            • John 18:11
                              • “Am I not to drink the cup the Father has given me?”
                              • Luke 9:51
                                • “He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.”

                                  • We need all of these things. We need Jesus’ knowledge, power, compassion, and resolve to reach into our neighbors’ lives.
