Everyone's journey progresses at its own pace | A conversation with Zita Martins

Listen Later

Zita Martins is an Associate Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal, and co-director of the MIT-Portugal program. In her research in Astrobiology, she looks for bio-signatures in space missions, and investigates the potential contribution of organic compounds present in meteorites and comets to the origin of life on Earth.

In this talk she discusses her PhD experience, the pressure to publish results, feeling like she was always behind her peers, the challenges to find and sustain a good work-life balance and how to cope with the unpredictable bad luck of losing her most important research samples during shipping.

This FAIL! talk was recorded in May 2021 as part of the "Brainstorms" session hosted by the Student Club on Mental Health and Inclusion - IST Lisbon
