Host: Renée Simone Yolanda Allen, MD, MHSc., FACOG
Guest: Lawrence Glad, MD
In January 2016, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issued a Practice Bulletin providing guidance supporting the use of an FDA approved HPV test for first-line cervical cancer screening in women age 25 and older as an alternative to cytology. Increased understanding of the role of HPV in cervical cancer development has shed new light on how HPV testing can be integrated into cervical cancer screening, with the goal of identifying patients at risk earlier while reducing over-testing and unnecessary interventions. Join host, Dr. Renee Allen, as she interviews Dr. Lawrence Glad, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, to discuss recent guideline updates, the medical value of HPV primary screening and practical tips on how to successfully incorporate primary screening into clinician practice.
