Ex Machina level Artificial Intelligence is coming. What do we, as believers in Jesus do about it? Movies about Artificial Intelligence like Ex Machina, Avengers, AI, iRobot, and Terminator Salvation have been hitting the box office with increasing frequency of late. It seems that whenever a technology Artificial Intelligence keeps surfacing in science fiction flicks that is an indication that it is closing in on becoming science fact. The Chinese company Baidu just unveiled their new supercomputer with the capability to “exceed human performance.” It is not the only supercomputer with artificial intelligence however. Google and Microsoft also sport similar computers witch, “exceed human performance.” According to Ray Kurzweil, super human artificial intelligence is just around the corner. In his “Ted Talks” and in his best selling book, “The Singularity is Near,” Kurzwiel tells us that computers will be able to outperform humans in every area within several decades. Kurzwiel does not stop there. He also describes how we will have the ability to upload our consciousness into computers that will enhance our ability to solve problems and experience the world. In “The Singularity is Near” Kurswiel also has the audacity to claim that we will fill the universe with our intelligence and essentially become God. This has a great many moral implications and has the potential to shake the faith of a lot of Jesus followers. Not to worry I am here to help guide you through the Biblical implications of these profound changes and to reassure you that God is in control, God has a plan and his word can help you navigate these profound changes to the very definition of what it means to be human.
