Today's American Swimming Coaches Association talk comes from Hall of Fame Coach Richard Quick.
Richard Quick had a significant impact on both collegiate and international swimming. Over the course of his career, Quick served as the head coach for the women's swimming teams at several universities, including the University of Texas, Stanford University, and Auburn University. Under his guidance, his teams won a total of 12 NCAA championships.
In addition to his success as a collegiate coach, Quick also served as the head coach for the U.S. Olympic swimming teams during three Olympic Games. 1988. 1996. And 2000. Throughout his coaching career, he worked with numerous world-class athletes including Janet Evans, Summer Sanders, Jenny Thompson, and even Rowdy Gaines.
Quick was known for his coaching philosophy that emphasized the importance of mental preparation, goal-setting, and a positive attitude. He passed away in 2009 after battling brain cancer but left behind a lasting legacy on American swimming.
