This idea of excluding no one from our love creates a lot of cognitive dissonance in us: What about Hitler? What about Mussolini? What about Satan? To that, I remind people what Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: "Hate the sin, but love the sinner." Not something easy to do when you're dealing with a fascist dictator, a mass murderer, or the devil incarnate. But guess what? It's a distraction to be focusing on those extreme examples. How about trying to not exclude those from our love who look and think differently from us? There's the real issue. There's the real challenge. There's the change in mindset that is necessary if we are ever to move past our divisiveness, our judgments, our hate, and our rage towards our fellow citizens who we find despicable.
