Heart HQ – a cardiology podcast

Exercise and Sudden Cardiac Death

Listen Later

The new year is a popular time to start, or re-commence, an exercise program. But what are the risks involved?

Unfortunately, sudden cardiac death can occur. It accounts for around 1 in 50,000-100,000 deaths per year in young athletes, rising to 1 in 7,000 in athletes over 35.

In this episode, Peter and Stuart take a further look at sudden cardiac death and exercise. They also discuss who is most at risk and how patients can reduce their chances of having a devastating heart event while exercising, especially if they are new to it.
