CRUMBS Cafe

Exit 97.7 WEXT DJs - Episode 129

Listen Later

On this episode of CRUMBS Cafe we travel to the Exit 97.7 WEXT studios in Troy to interview Chris Wienk, Dave Michaels, and Katie G. We wanted to turn get their perspective on the local music scene and talk about their role in the scene. We interviewed the three DJs, but there are many people all throughout our organization who have helped to put the station together, and who continue to offer their help on a daily basis. Exit 97.7 WEXT is a special listener-supported music service from WMHT Educational Telecommunications. The station's goal is to provide you a unique listening experience with music that knows no boundary of genre. The focus is on emerging artists, classic songs that regular radio has forgotten, and especially music from the region (the Local 518). This won't work without listener support. They run the station as efficiently as possible. None of the "staff" is paid to do this. They're doing it out of a love of the music. They have cobbled ourselves together because they, like you, cannot find a decent radio station to listen to. You can count on WEXT to provide you with a place for musical discovery, but they have to count on you for support, feedback and anything else you can do to help. Chris grew up listening to his dad play the pipe organ, and really dug the deep bass notes. He also was found dancing in front of tiny, little, very tinny stereo speakers that were blasting old Simon & Garfunkel. Dave has loved rock and roll since he was just a pup. David fancies himself a drummer, and dreams of filling in for almost any great rock drummer one day. Katie G may be new to the bunch, but she is quick to the draw with music references. She also produces the My Exit program where listeners can be the DJ for an hour and play their selected songs.
