Good book, disappointing audio book
The story is typical mcnab, he really has the genre nailed down. However, audibles contribution is lacking, out of the entire Nick Stone collection this and one other are the only two abridged which means you are missing a lot of character development and you need to fill in the gaps yourself.
bad Idea swapping the narrator
by swapping the narrator from Paul Thornley to Rupert degres.... how ever you spell has ruined my experience... its like swapping a character in a film.... its not right... I strongly recommend adding the Paul Thornley versions... I know Paul Thornley has narrated the rest of the nick stone series as I have found them on the Internet... very poor judgement.... and Rupert reads these books very poorly. plus the other versions I have found are 10 hours plus... This is only 3 hours plus... I feel like I have been robbed and considering take my business else where.. hope you can fix this
a rare miss
Didn't enjoy this anywhere near as much as I have the other books in the series. Not sure the reason, but it is only around a quarter of the length of all the other books (despite still costing the same might I add) and just seems rushed. in other stories, the characters are built up to a point where you are genuinely sad when they get bumped off, but this time it just seems like McNab basically says "OK, this is the character, he's the nice one, so you need to like him. here's his soppy back story, struggling wife and kids blah blah blah. OK so now he's dead, but don't worry, here's a new character, but I'll warn you, I don't fancy his chances". it all just felt like it was a book written to hit a deadline, and personally couldn't wait for it to finish so I could move onto the next, which I'm hoping is now in keeping with the rest of the series
An audible page turner!
I really enjoyed this book and devoured it very short order. I like Andy McNab's style and characters, so may be a bit biased. The plot is pacey and has several twists and the characters are generally likeable. The plot gets a little far fetched in a couple of places (in my view), with the main character travelling quickly between countries, but it made it full of action, which was good.
I also liked the narrator - quite a refined voice at the time and initially I didn't think his voice would work with how I envisaged the character, but he grew on me quickly and I now want to hear more.
