This week we begin a five-week look at the book of Exodus. The big theme that runs through the book of Exodus, and the Bible for that matter, is God's divine deliverance. God rescued the Israelite people from captivity in Egypt and led them to the land God had promised them. This rescue points forward to God's far greater rescue mission to save all people from captivity to sin and death through the cross of Christ Jesus.

Exodus 2:23-25 During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God. And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. God saw the people of Israel—and God knew. (ESV)
