'“Ten Words” Sermon Series || In the first commandment, God tells us to have no other gods before Him. But how do we do that? Scottish pastor, Thomas Chalmers, addressed this question in his sermon ‘The Expulsive Power of a New Affection’. Chalmers said you may try by demonstrating the world’s vanity. But ultimately it’s futile to convince one to leave the pleasantries of green fields and blue skies by drawing attention to the storm clouds in the distance. Instead, you put forth another object that is more magnificent and worthy of our attachment. In this sermon we look at what it means to not have other gods before God, and the importance of turning our attention to the unmatchable beauty of Christ.
