Exodus 24 depicts a pivotal moment in Israel’s covenant with God. Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders ascend Mount Sinai at God’s command. There, they see a vision of God standing on a sapphire pavement, eat a covenant meal in His presence, and survive the encounter. Moses relays God’s words and laws to the people, who affirm their obedience. He writes the covenant, builds an altar, and offers sacrifices, sprinkling blood on the altar and people to seal the agreement. God then calls Moses alone higher up the mountain to receive stone tablets with the law. Moses enters a cloud of God’s glory, remaining there for forty days and nights as the mountain blazes with divine fire visible to Israel below.
