Exodus 4 leaves off with Moses beginning to undertake God’s restorative work, but things don’t look so good for the Israelites in Exodus 5. Yet God’s restoration plan is going exactly as He told Moses it would (Ex. 3:16-22)…so how do we reconcile these two realities? The account of Exodus 5 shows us how we tend to respond to God’s restoration plan with some false assumptions. In this we see that we wrongfully assume we will gain earthly comfort, maintain earthly standing, or bear immediate fruit in God’s restoration work.
