Exodus | Who Do You Think You Are

Moses is a Hebrew, adopted into an Egyptian household. Yet, these do not formulate the most important aspect of his identity. The text, through the telling of Moses's intervention in three conflicts, illustrates that the primary identity of Moses is one who cannot stand injustice. It is this identity that positions Moses to be the "hero" of Israel. Yet, even though this identity is true, Moses does not have the courage to live that out on his own. The deprecating question, "Who do you think you are?" plagues his self-perceptions. In response, God simply ignores that question and replaces it with another question, namely, "Who do you say I AM?"
