Women in AEC: Wine After Work

Experience a career breakthrough with public speaking

Listen Later

I had the pleasure of speaking with Roberta Ndlela, a public speaker and coach.  She graduated with a Business degree, with Transportation Economics and Planning as a major.  Her corporate journey started in 1995, when she worked with engineering companies. Being involved in project teams that incorporated different professionals introduced her to how vital communication skills are, in addition to subject matter expertise.

She started her public speaking career in 2016 and her coaching focus is mainly assisting business owners and career professionals with public speaking, presentation mastery, interpersonal skills, and overall Business English.  She shares with us tips to improve our own public speaking.  "Brilliant innovations do not serve mankind if hidden on hard drives." She discusses how companies are reluctant to promote project managers who are not able to motivate different team members to work together towards a certain goal. A good percentage of new graduates experience a rude awakening when entering the corporate world. Peer interaction differs from corporate communication. Understanding those distinctions are necessary for being taken seriously and subsequently climbing the corporate ladder.  Roberta speaks of all of this in our conversation, if public speaking has ever made you nervous take a listen!
