Exploring Santa Catarina, Brazil with Andréia Bissoni

Listen Later

In this episode Andréia introduces us to the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. We start off in the European Valley with its distinct mix of German and Italian heritage, architecture and culture. Pomerode, the most German city in Brazil, and Blumenau, the second largest Oktoberfest in the world, are two of the must see attractions featuring a Germanic Village, polka cake and homemade cheese and wine. For nature lovers, Rio do Cedros beckons nearby with a mix of waterfalls and hiking trails.

For a completely different experience, head to the island of Florianópolis and check out one of Andréia's favorite  beaches at Jurerê and if you want to experience Portugal from afar be sure to head to Santo Antônio de Lisboa. If you want to experience waters akin to the Caribbean, be sure to check out Ilha do Campeche. Away from the beach you can find fantastic wineries and gastronomy in Urubici.  Finally, if you want to experience a spectacular canyon that straddles the border with Rio Grande do Sul head to Itaimbezinho.
